Visit Beirut Through the Lens of an Architect

Beirut Lebanon explosion at sea, architecture, blue water and blue sky

“I’ve been taking photos and sharing the beauty of Lebanon, for more than 8 years now.”

Karl Mansour is an architect, an urban planner, and a patriotic photographer. He is from Lebanon, but travels the world, and takes us with him through his beautiful and captivating architectural photos.

He goes by the name “karliseverywhere”. He created his page in 2011, to share his own architectural shots and street photography. But his lenses’ favorite capture was, and always will be, his heart, Beirut.

But imagine waking up every morning for 8 years with the mission to take photos of the architecture that you find so captivating, and then within the blink of an eye having that beauty that you cherished completely devastated before your eyes.

Karl's vision on Beirut's latest tragedy

“My heart hurts to see the damages done to my beautiful and charming country. My heart hurts for the ones who have family and friends still missing under the debris and the rubble. I know ONE THING is true

We will rebuild Beirut. Lebanon will rise again.”

Ever since the explosion on August 4th2020, Beirut and the Lebanese have never been the same.

The same streets that people used to party on, are now a ghost town, all damaged and broken. Broken, just like the Lebanese’s hearts and spirits. But, resilience is what the Lebanese know best.

They fall, but always get up back on their feet, through each other’s’ support, cooperation, and brotherhood.

“When you walk in those streets, you’ll feel life is back…again”, he says. To Karl, Beirut is an architectural haven; it’s a mix of modern and traditional, old and new…

Walking through the streets of Mar Mkhayel, Karl expresses his total admiration of the old houses, and the freedom and life they contain, as he also insists that they are a vital part of Lebanon’s heritage.

Capturing the beauty in everything

Though no matter what is happening in the country, Karl never seizes to capture the beauty of Lebanon, as seen through his eyes and those of his fellow Lebanese.

He invites everyone, to come and visit his beloved Lebanon, to experience its magic, get enchanted by its distinctive charm, and fall in love with its contrast.

But until Covid is over, Karl took us on a tour of some of the spots he knew and loved that were destroyed by the explosion.

So enjoy this virtual tour to the land of Lebanon, and start dreaming of the day you visit.
