Scopio Genesis Story and The Release of our App 2022
I always wanted Scopio to be an app to reach accessibility to everyone, everywhere that would give immediate access to those who want to re share their images outside of the social media apps (to newsrooms, or supporters) instead of getting drowned out on instagram or twitter at the time. Bootstrapping a web version which now hosts more than one million images from 20,000 storytelling photographers, and graphic artists. We have dealt with changes in Facebooks ecosystem the aftermath of Cambridge Analytica which shut down so many businesses and our ability to search and directly license from people on IG. I decided to move theses stories and images and re build on Shopify (without the ability to build our own website the invention of web stores like Shopify provided an opportunity with no money left as our option, and now being Shopify's largest photo site. I was told by many to hide my genesis story of being a voice for the underdog for many years before BLM and popular movements made DEI at the forefront of our world which allowed me to speak my truth freely and opened up new opportunities for sharing these images beyond news applications to let new positive imagery flourish across the internet. I also did things like ban gun images from my site and make it safer for younger people to join our platform, the most creative generation on earth that web3 has not paid any attention to protect. This year we became the first female founded NFT marketplace. I wanted to embrace this ecosystem and new tech for one reason, being the first to pay our artists in crypto with the mission of reaching everyone despite access to paypal, and giving them more authority on the blockchain through NFT's (photo stealing has been horrible for photographers $$ for almost a century) this year, I look back after 10 years of innovating in this space and reading old articles at Columbia | SIPA about how hard it was in my mind to create something so magnificent when I couldn't have the $$$ to create my app dream I persevered despite to my constraints, but taking the winding road to get here, I have to quote Denzel "consistency and hard work" finally, we have an app the world can use to share their stories. We welcome the world's storytellers soon.
